This is an eight (8) month 900 hour Specialist Program course in Patient Care Technology (PCT) which is given in fourteen different and consecutive components or units within a thirty (30) week period. The course is geared towards managerial preparation in the field as expressed and requested through employer surveys. The course includes basic and advanced skills in Fundamentals of Medical Patient Care, Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Law and Ethics & Communication, CPR and First Aid, Patient Care, Professional Responsibilities, Infection Control & Asepsis, Clinical Phlebotomy, Laboratory Skills, Specimen handling, Laboratory measurements, Microbiology, Chemistry, Introduction to EKG, Applied and Clinical EKG, HIPAA Compliance & Documentation. Career Development, Certification Exam Review and Certification Exam along with a 180 hour externship to enhance field skills.
This Patient Care Technician Training Program is designed to generate the Patient Care Technician, a vital member of the healthcare team, who will be expected to perform clinical and administrative duties in a medical office, nursing home, ambulatory health care center or hospital. The anticipated outcome for the course is for the student to be able to challenge the National Healthcareer Association Examination (NHA) and obtain a 70% or better passing score as well as employment in the respected vocational career field.
